Databases
| Database Servers | |||
| Database | Used | Comfort | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| MySQL | 1998-now | ![]() |
I have used MySQL extensively for both professional and personal projects since the late 90’s. I am very comfortable in both development with MySQL and administration and maintenance of a MySQL server. |
| PostgreSQL | 2009-2009 | ![]() |
I used Postgres for a very short period just before chaning jobs. My overall impression was that the tools weren’t as mature as MySQL. |
| Oracle (8i & 10g) | 2000-2008 | ![]() |
I was using Oracle in a prior project, and use both SQL and PL/SQL to maintain data sets for testing/validation as well as implementation needs. I started with Oracle 8i in 2000, then had a brief break between 2003 to 2005. If given the choice, Oracle would not be my first choice for a database due to support and cost issues. |
| SQL Server | 1999-2000 | ![]() |
I used Microsoft’s SQL Server for a short period while creating an offline web based point of sale application. The web application would synchronize with the SQL Server after a salesperson had completed their sales calls for the day. |
| Languages | |||
| Language | Used | Comfort | Notes |
| SQL | 1987-now | ![]() |
I have been using SQL on various databases since college; I am most comfortable with SQL on the MySQL server, but have also used the SQL variations on SQL Server and Oracle. |
| PL/SQL | 2007-now | ![]() |
I only recently began using Oracle PL/SQL to create stored procedures and packages to support the development of a pension processing system. I am not quite at a level where I feel completely comfortable with the language, but I believe that will be changing shortly. |
